C stands for Colnago, Cambiago, carbon; 40 for years of experience. In the case of the C40, it also stands for change, as there was a world of cycling before and after the C40. It proved that carbon fiber was the material of the future because it was durable and unrivaled in weight and stiffness.

What made this bike special:
As much as the C40 was a revolution, it kept traditional frame-making knowledge alive thanks to its lugged construction. The tubes that keep the Masters iconic star-shaped design and the lugs of the frame were completely made out of carbon. The lugged construction allowed Colnago to build the frame to measure. The C40 came equipped with the Precisa steel fork until the early 2000s, when it was replaced by the “Star” and later “Force” carbon fork.
